- For best results, follow these Step by Step Wound Care Directions: 1. Prepare: Stop bleeding by applying pressure with sterile gauze or cotton. Cleanse injured area gently and thoroughly with an antiseptic or mild soap and water. pat dry. 2. Treat: Protect wounds by applying Mycitracin Antibiotic ointment or first aid Cream. 3. Protect: Cover injured area completely with an adhesive pad or a non-stick pad to help absorb fluids. Tape to firmly secure pad and help seal out dirt and germs. A covered wound heals faster than an uncovered one.
